How your chargeable weight is calculated
For fairness, carriers compare your actual (scale) weight to volumetric (dimensional) weight and charge whichever is greater. Use the formulas below to estimate:
Example: 120×80×60cm = 576,000 ÷ 6000 = 96 kg
Divisor can vary by integrator; we’ll confirm in your quote.
Sea LCL is priced per CBM; heavy cargo may incur weight add-ons above ~1000 kg/CBM.
Always measure the outer dimensions of the packed piece (including pallet or crate). Palletising can increase chargeable weight.
Common surcharges
These may be added by carriers or terminals, and we’ll disclose them upfront in your quote.
- Fuel / security surcharges
- Peak season / congestion fees
- Airline or port handling
- DG (dangerous goods) screening
- Import duties & VAT (where applicable)
- Customs inspection / exam fees
- Remote area / lift-gate / redelivery
- Storage / demurrage / detention
Quotes are in GBP and typically exclude VAT where applicable. Incoterms (e.g., EXW, FOB, DAP, DDP) affect which charges fall to buyer vs seller — we’ll guide you to the right term.
